Ferrari Tour in Helsinki, Report (part 1 of 2)

I went to see it - as did thousands of other Finns. The Olympic Stadium was surprisingly crowded, and it was just a tiny portion of the route (ok a starting point but anyway).

There were around 40 Ferraris, including mostly new models (Modena 360, Maranello 575,.. no Enzo or Fiorano) but some older as well.

Photos and videos coming soon (tomorrow maybe).

Ferrari celebrates its 60th anniversary with a 50 country tour which started from Abu Dhabi, site of the future Ferrari theme park, on January 28th. The tour will be finished June 21st in Maranello, Italy, where a major event takes place.

Today the tour is in Helsinki, Finland. Reportedly there will be 27 Ferraris participating.

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells...

Hey, it's December already, did you notice? Me neither. No snow here, so it still feels more like fall than winter. Anyway Christmas is a bit more than three weeks away and I'm writing my wish list for Santa Claus. My list has only one line, I hope he can deliver it ..

I started a new poll series this month. Let's see which Ferraris are most wanted. Now we have 2000s Ferraris, next 90s and so on (supercars are excluded, sorry). Please cast your votes, it doesnt cost anything and we'll get some interesting data.

Fancy a Ferrari t-shirt? It can be yours - just send a feedback containing your name, email and some thoughts about this site. Can be whatever you want, the winner will be chosen randomly. The contest will end 31.12.2006. Good luck!

Insurance for a Ferrari in Finland

As part of this project I wanted to find out what I have to pay if I want to insure a Ferrari in Finland. I contacted three insurance companies and asked the insurance price with following details:

Car Model: Ferrari Modena 360 F1,
Year: 2000,
insurance bonus 30%,
VAT-approved post-installed alarm.

And results? Well, not much to tell. I have been insurance company Pohjola's customer for longer time now, and they replied me properly;
I received a letter including all the details and prices in few days. Other insurance companies, IF and Fennia, replied and told they don't
offer this kind of insurance because I'm not their customer. Yes, that is strange. Either that is their policy or .. something else, I don't know. But anyway what they made sure is that I will never buy any insurances from these insurance companies, if possible.

However, I got one response from Pohjola:

TRAFFIC INSURANCE (liikennevakuutus)
- 515,84e / year (bonus 30%)

VOLUNTARY CAR INSURANCE
(Continuos Superkasko including ..)
Bonus 70% 689,18e
Window insurance 20,53e
Super redemption 89,48e
Cancellation 40e/day 82,67e
- Total: 881,86

VOLUNTARY CAR INSURANCE includes:
- Mischief insurance (150e)
- Car service insurance (-)
- Justice insurance (15%, at least 200e)
- Theft insurance (150e)
- Mooze insurance (150e)
- Fire insurance (150e)
- Crash insurance (150e)
- Window insurance (150e)
- Super redemption (-)
- Cancellation insurance (-)

So, it's 1397.70e per year. And this covers Ferrari - all models.

It was cheaper than I expected. Some years ago insurance companies used to have a counter on their web site where you can count the
cost of insurance by giving all the needed details, then I got a price which was several thousands of euros. Nowadays they they don't
have this counter for Ferrari models.

Later, maybe I'll do some more research but I leave this topic for now. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

P.S Yeah, propably I didn't know the right terms in English, sorry about that.

Formula 1: Kimi signs 3 year deal with Ferrari

Ferrari announced today they have signed Kimi Räikkönen as their race driver. He will partner Felipe Massa, as Michael Schumacher is going to retire after this season.

Just few days ago Team Renault announced that Heikki Kovalainen, who has been the teams' test driver this season, will replace Fernando Alonso. From Finnish point of view the season 2007 will be very interesting.

Thanks to one Finnish message forum (and its users), Project-Ferrari.com got more visitors today than during the past 301 days! Amazing.
As I don't have much content here at the moment, I want to tell you that I'm currently working with picture gallery and writing information about insurances. The first competition is also under work. All these are to be published this month so please check back later! :). Meanwhile you can write some feedback (do you have anything you want to know about Ferraris?..) and cast your vote in "Poll of the Month".

How many Ferraris are there in Finland ..?

If you manage to see a Ferrari on the streets of Finland, you are lucky. According to the information I got from AKE (The Finnish Vehicle Administration, record created 31.12.2005) there are just 88 Ferraris wrooming out there. Three of them are Ferrari Modena 360's and the rest 85 are... undefined models. I wonder why they don't have exact information about them.

One good source may be Ferrari Club Finland. At the moment they seem to have 54 members and as it is only for Ferrari owners, they must have a good database about the Ferraris in Finland.

It's been a while since I wrote here last time. I have a lot of plans for this website but didn't execute them yet. During the summer this is going to change.

First I'm planning to introduce some company (or companies) which is dealing with Ferraris. Also I hope to find some Ferrari owners who I can interview - if you are one, please send me a message. And in June it's time for the first contest; a simple question/answer and a cool Ferrari t-shirt can be yours!

32 days later

The first month passed and it's time for a little summary. As I have told before this year is dedicated for the site development. Lately I haven't done much but at least something; few statistics and a handy RSS feed. More to come.

Current balance is miserable; 19.49e. But it's better than nothing, right? Next addition to statistics page will be "Estimated time to purchase" which is just the car price devided by "Total money per day". It should give some rough estimate which I'm not going to like. But it's the reality.

For me the most interesting thing to follow is the number of visitors. I launched this site one month ago and didn't tell anyone. And results? The statistics script says index.php was loaded 72 times; I did it 6 times, www.whois.sc 4 times, "real visitors" 15 times and the most active user was MSNBOT.

What's New?

Now more statistics available and a useful RSS feed (http://www.project-ferrari.com/pf-rss.xml). This feed only includes news items but if requested, I'll make it cover other parts too.

And the project itself? Well, the rest of the year 2005 I'll concentrate developing this site better and more interesting. Meanwhile the PF bank account will get only minor savings as you may have noticed. However, I already got first donation! See statistics page for more details.

P.S First ever contest coming soon...

Project-Ferrari.com launched!

The idea of the project was born two years ago, but just five months ago I started building this site. To finish it really didn't take that long; it was almost ready to be published in June but I spent 1,5 months traveling in Asia last summer and after that I had to move etc so I decided to give the project a time-out (no reason to publish and let it be without updates for months).

But now it is ready. There are still a lot of functionality to be implemented but I think this is a good start. Let's see in what direction this site develops, I made this site for myself but I'll be honored if someone finds it attractive.

Cheers,

Antti
